Independent Medical Education Grants

Independent Medical Educational Grant requests are reviewed in accordance with the relevant guidelines and regulations promulgated by the PhRMA Code, ACCME, FDA, and the Office of Inspector General.

Types of educational programs within scope of AGO:
  • Live educational forums (Grand Rounds, Symposia, etc…)
  • Enduring Education (Webcasts, articles, recordings, etc…)
Priority is assigned to accredited educational programs for healthcare professionals focused on the acute and long-term complications of diabetes. The AGO occasionally funds educational grants in other related metabolic areas like Obesity and Lipodystrophy. The grant office adheres to the goals of ACCME and considers the following criteria amongst others in it's decisions:
  • Promotes excellence in patient care
  • Location conducive to learning
  • Education appropriate level to audience
  • Meets ACCME non-bias guidelines
  • Documentation of outcomes
  • Appropriate budget for reach and audience
Educational Initiatives generally outside the scope or of lower priority for AGO funding include the following:
  • Grants to Individuals or Group Practices
  • Programs where attendee entertainment is substantive part of program
  • Fees for commercial exhibits or product display opportunities (these requests should be directed to the local Amylin sales representative)
  • Professional development not directly associated with patient medical care (e.g. Speaker Training, Leadership development, Relationship building)
  • Travel Grants or Recognition Awards
AGO only funds grant requests that have a designated purpose, which must be sufficiently outlined within the letter of request. Amylin reviews the requests based on their merit and will not provide direction or exert control over the content of the educational program.
